Now you’ve got your new phone, it's time to get your old one ready for trade-in. There are a few important things you need to do before we collect it.

Step 1: Take a picture of the phone you’re trading in using a separate phone or camera.

  • Make sure you capture the general condition of the phone and the IMEI number.

  • The IMEI number can be found on the back of the phone..

  • Or alternatively, dial *#06# on the keypad and it will come up.

Step 2: If you haven’t already, transfer your data to your new Samsung.

The Smart Switch app is the simplest way to transfer all your data to your new Galaxy smartphone.

  1. First make sure you have the Smart Switch app downloaded on both phones. You will find it at Settings > Cloud and accounts > Smart Switch or Settings > Cloud and backup > Smart Switch. On older phones, you may need to download it from the Play Store.

  2. Once you’ve got Smart Switch installed, connect your new and old phones using the USB C connector (found in your new phone’s box). Tap Backup in the Smart Switch app and then Allow on your old phone to start the transfer process.

  3. Open Smart Switch on your new phone and tap Start, then follow the onscreen instructions. You’ll be able to choose which data you want to transfer. While it's transferring, you will see a percentage on the screen letting you know how far through it is.

Step 3: Remove any personal data from your old phone.

To remove any personal data stored on your old phone, you’ll need to sign out of your Samsung account and perform a factory reset.

Signing out of your Samsung account:

  1. Go to Settings > Accounts and backup or Cloud and accounts > Accounts, and choose the account you would like to remove.

  2. Then tap Personal info and More options.

  3. Then Remove Account and Remove.

  4. Enter your Samsung Account password and tap Done.

Performing a factory reset

Your personal information cannot be recovered after doing this, so please save any personal information you need to your computer before you do it.

  1. From the Home screen, tap Apps.

  2. Tap Settings.

  3. Tap Backup and reset.

  4. Tap Factory data reset.

  5. Read the information provided then tap Reset device.

  6. If you have a security lock enabled on the device you will be prompted to enter the lock information before proceeding.

  7. Tap Delete all to delete all the information and downloaded applications.

Sit tight...the process may take a few minutes while your phone removes your personal data and restores the Android platform to its original state.

Step 4: Remove your phone from Find My Mobile

To turn off Find My Mobile:

  1. Tap Settings

  2. Tap Biometrics and security

  3. Tap Find My Mobile

  4. Swipe the slider Off and enter your Samsung account details.

Step 5: Get ready for DPD

  • DPD will contact you via text and email on behalf of Raylo and Technology Recycle Group (our trade-in partner) to confirm the date of your collection.

  • Please note - the text and email will mention ‘delivery of your parcel’. This is because it is a DPD ‘Swap It delivery’ so your driver will provide all of the relevant packaging for you.

  • Therefore all you need to do is hand your old phone over to your DPD driver and they will package it for you. So you won’t need to provide any of your own or put it in a Raylo box.

  • Remember to remove any phone accessories you want to keep as these will not be returned.

  • On the day of your collection attempt, you should receive a text and email with a more specific time slot so you can plan the rest of your day around the collection slot given.

  • If you’re not going to be in, simply rearrange the collection day using the links provided in the text and email or via the DPD app. Please note DPD will make two attempts to collect your trade-in device. If you do not confirm a third and final collection attempt within 6 hours of your second attempt, your trade-in will be cancelled. We will not be able to reverse the cancellation of your trade-in.
