You can use Smart Switch to transfer all your data directly from your previous device to your new Samsung. You can do this wirelessly, or by connecting the devices together. You might choose the wired method if the wireless network that you are using is slow or congested.

Before beginning you will need to download the Smart Switch software.

(On newer Samsung devices you will find this already at Settings>Cloud and Accounts> Smart Switch.)

To switch from an iPhone, you will need to turn-off two-step verification (if applicable) on your Apple ID before beginning.

To transfer from iPhone via Wi-Fi:

  • Open Smart Switch on your new Samsung device

  • Select ‘Wireless’, then ‘Retrieve’, then ‘iOS’

  • Then sign into your iCloud account

  • Deselect any data you do not want to transfer and then select 'Import'. Once you've imported the basic information, you will be given the option to download media content such as photos and documents. Untick anything you don't want to transfer, then tap 'Import’

  • Once everything has transferred, tap 'Close app'. Don't forget to also disable iMessage on your iOS device

To transfer from iPhone with a USB:

  • Open Smart Switch on your new Samsung device

  • Connect your iPhone and your new Samsung with a USB-C connector and your Lightning cable

  • Select ‘Next’ on your Samsung phone and follow the prompts

  • The new device will search and connect to your previous iPhone and you will be given the option to select which information you would like to transfer. Once selected, press ‘Transfer’

To transfer from iPhone using a PC:

  • Open iTunes on your PC and connect your iPhone using the lightning cable (Select ‘Continue’ then ‘Trust’ to allow access)

  • Select your iPhone on iTunes. Go to Summary> iPhone Backup> This computer> Back up now

  • Once backed up, remove your iPhone by selecting the iTunes eject icon and removing the lightning cable

  • Open Smart Switch, once downloaded and install it

  • Connect your new device to your PC and select ‘Restore’ in the Smart Switch program interface

  • If you have no previous backups select ‘Restore Now’ then ‘Select a Different Backup’ and select ‘iTunes Backup Data’ from the top left of the Smart Switch interface

  • Select the data you want to transfer and select ‘OK’ then ‘Restore now’ and ‘Allow’

To switch from Android, make sure you have Smart Switch downloaded on both devices.

To transfer from Android via Wi-Fi:

  • Connect your devices, making sure they are close together and that you have a stable internet connection

  • Open Smart Switch on your new Samsung device and press ‘Start’. Then follow the onscreen prompts

  • You will then have the option to select the data you wish to transfer

To transfer from Android with a USB:

  • Connect the two phones together using the USB-C connector that came with your new phone

  • Select ‘Backup’ in the Smart Switch program interface, and then ‘Allow’ on your phone to start transferring

  • Open Smart Switch on your new device, press ‘Start’ and follow the onscreen instructions

  • You will then have the option to select the data you wish to transfer

To transfer from Android using a PC:

  • Connect your old device to your PC and select ‘Backup’ in the Smart Switch program interface, then ‘Allow’ on your phone to start the transfer process

  • Once the backup is complete, select 'OK' and disconnect the phone

  • Connect your new device to your PC and select ‘Restore’ in the Smart Switch program interface, then ‘Select a different backup’, then ‘Samsung device data’

  • Select the data you want to transfer and select ‘OK’, ‘Restore now’ then ‘Allow’
